DISCOVER THE OUTDOORS

Zeeland’s landscape is unique and richly varied. There is so much to experience and explore, from polders and dikes to forests and dunes, salt marshes and mudflats. Whatever the season, Zeeland's countryside is a joy to visit. Enjoy the salty sea air. Discover seals, porpoises, fallow deer and the incredible diversity of birdlife. And there’s lots to do. Like hunting for shark’s teeth in one of the unique salt marshes and polders. Or immersing yourself in nature on a woodland hike.

A RARE MIX OF LAND AND WATER

Zeeland is made up of 40% water. You can spend hours, days, even weeks on the water. The Veerse Meer and Grevelingenmeer are great places for boating and swimming. If you’re looking for places to dive, sail, go kiting and surfing, there are plenty of options, too. Don’t forget to visit Oosterschelde National Park, the largest national park in the Netherlands.

200 MILES OF COASTLINE

Zeeland has some of the loveliest, cleanest beaches in the Netherlands. With a coastline spanning more than 200 miles, when it comes to picking a beach spot, you’re spoiled for choice, especially because each of Zeeland’s beaches is different. The Banjaardstrand in Kamperland is only 20 minutes by bike from Resort De Vlasschure. This charming family beach is almost 2 miles long, with typical Zeeland views: behind you are the dunes, and in front of you, the glittering blue sea. If you look to the right you’ll see the Storm Surge Barrier glistening in the sun.

FOR THE LITTLEST

There are lots of ideas for great family days out. Hundreds of seals live in the wild in Zeeland. The best time to spot them is when they’re resting on the sandbanks at low tide. Every day, boats depart from different locations. Are you going on a seal safari? Or would you rather climb the highest dune? The dunes at Groot-Valkenisse are some of the highest in the Netherlands. And at an elevation of 170 feet, this is the highest natural point in the country. It’s quite a climb, but the dune path offers fantastic views of the land and sea. This is the only part of the Dutch coastline where large ocean-going ships come so close. And what about paddle boarding…balancing on a surf board may take some getting used to, but it’s a fun sport for all ages. Feel the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. Discover Zeeland from the water on a paddle board. Parents will secretly love paddle boarding too!
